In 1825, on the quays of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a chronometer-keeper who had kept time across the whaling routes to Newfoundland founded a house with a single conviction: that a life at sea deserves an instrument worthy of it. Seven generations later, MareTempus still builds its watches metres from the Atlantic — where the tide sets the tempo and precision is not a luxury, but a duty.
Eneko Etcheverria, chronometer-keeper on Basque whaling voyages to Newfoundland, establishes the house at Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
Basel ownership arrives with a singular covenant: a member of the founding family shall hold the office of CEO for one hundred and one years.
The house opens its first directly-operated boutique in Asia, carrying the Basque tide to the Ginza.
Maïté Etcheverria — seventh generation of the founding family — guides the house into its third century.

The Pacific Captain
Bronze that ages like a ship's bell and a lagoon-blue sandwich dial built for depth and legibility. A dual-time instrument for the crossing — one hand on home, one on the horizon.

The signature of the house. An enamel-style heritage dial, Roman numerals and a chemin de fer minute track, guarded by a coin-edge ceramic bezel — heir to the chronometers that kept the house's time on the Newfoundland voyages.

The house's spirited new line — precise quartz timekeeping in lagoon, coral and citrus, developed with Basque waterman Beñat Harismendi. The same anchor, a lighter wake.

III · The Manufacture
On its riverside site above Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the original 1825 mill — La Manufacture — still anchors the workshops. Movements are machined in the Grande Halle, dials and cases shaped in the Atelier des Composants, and every bridge hand-finished in the Atelier de Finition: anglage, Côtes de Genève, engraving, and timing control before a single crown is sealed.
